Hall of Records text on the legend of the Pearl

Last year my research took me to the Hall of Records to find out more about the pearl Drake found on his voyage of circumnavigation and its connection to the lost continent of Atlantis.

My grandma had told me lots of stories of how the pearl was guarded in Plymouth by ‘The Order of the Pearl’ for generations and travelled as a talisman on voyages of adventure and discovery with pioneers and explorers who sailed from Plymouth, but her knowledge of its history before 1580 was patchy.

I was hoping some investigation at the Hall of Records would throw some light on the older history of the pearl. I wasn’t disappointed. In the Egyptian library I found this folio written in ancient Atlantean script:

Here’s my best attempt at a translation:

The Legend of the Pearl

Inside the energy chamber, in the temple at the centre of Atlantis, amongst the Atlantean crystals that govern the energy fields of our fair kingdom, lies a rare pearl that has been guarded by generations of our people.

The pearl was found deep at the source of the ocean by a brave Atlantean explorer and has been protected inside an enchanted armillary sphere since its discovery many years ago.

It is larger than any pearl seen before and we have learnt much about its ability to harness the forces of the ocean and uphold the balance twixt land and sea. Should the pearl ever be separated from the sphere that balance will be unsettled, unleashing the dark forces of the ocean and disrupting the energy fields of the entire planet.

An energy imbalance may be imperceptible at first, but soon the consequences will accelerate and the most feared beast of the ocean will grow in stature and size. Mergor’s reach will stretch across small countries until the Earth is finally, and decisively, dominated by the sea.

The only clue we have is that its presence will be signified by a distinctive dark mark. There is no telling how that might emerge but the impact will be global. First, the low lying regions will disappear beneath the waves, then lighthouses, chimneys, church spires and temples will be swallowed. The devastation will continue until the tallest peak of the highest mountain is lost under water forever.

For this reason, great care must be taken over the protection of the pearl.

This folio is central to why I’m so determined that the pearl must be found. The pearl’s magical powers were weakened when Nancy Astor separated it from the armillary sphere during the Second World War to protect it from bombs. If we find it, we can restore its powers again and halt the spread of the dark mark.

Giant sinkholes swallowing land and unidentified sea monsters

Tracts of land and trees have been swallowed by a gigantic and spreading sinkhole in the US and an unidentifiable horned sea monster has washed up on the beach in Spain. And these two things happened in just the past week.

The frequency of strange marine incidents is increasing and it’s becoming more obvious to everyone that the balance between land and sea needs to be restored. My fear is Plymouth will be swallowed by the sea if we can’t find the pearl.

Check out the crazy and scary footage captured of the sinkhole in Louisana swallowing trees and land in under a minute.

And these are the images coming through from Spain of the horned sea devil/monster/dragon. No one can seem to agree on what to call it and a spokesperson from the Marine Biological Association said: “No one knows of anything with horns in the sea.”

It’s being covered globally, check out this article from Gawker and this from the Independent for more info.

Early depiction of the Pearl as talisman

Klaas Oudt, who’s been reading this blog and helping with my research and hunt for the pearl, just sent me this image of a map originally published in 1589 which I thought it would be great to share with you too.

1589 map of Sir Francis Drake in Cartagena

It shows Drake’s involvement in the Battle of Cartagena de Indias (1586) and is especially interesting because, as Klaas pointed out, it looks to be an early depiction of the talisman powers of the pearl after Drake found it on his voyage of circumnavigation 1577-80.

In the context of what we know about the pearl, this map seems to be a representation of the pearl (above the galleon) as a good omen in battle and a form of protection against the ancient sea monsters of the deep.

Surfer attacked in the water

Stuff out there is starting to get more scary. Check out this footage taken by a surfer after something attacked him in the water on Sunday.

Angus is a friend of a friend from Plymouth who got in touch to ask if I’ve heard about anything similar. I’ve read reports of it happening to fishermen and kayakers before but never been able to speak direct to anyone who’s had an experience, they seem to disappear or be impossible to trace…

Queen Elizabeth I letter establishing the Order of the Pearl

I found this letter/court order from Queen Elizabeth I to Sir Francis Drake amongst Grandma Betsy’s papers when I was sorting through them after she died. It was written the day after the Queen knighted Drake aboard the Golden Hind in London, and just a few months after he’d returned from circumnavigating the globe.

That same day he secretly presented the pearl as a gift to the Queen. She reportedly admired it greatly but was perturbed that its glow had dimmed since arriving in the capital. She told Drake that its power must lie in being by the sea and asked him to guard it in Plymouth. This is how and why it became to be known as the Pearl of Plymouth.

At the same time, Queen Elizabeth declared all written accounts of Drake’s voyage secrets of the Realm. Drake and those who sailed with him were also sworn to secrecy on pain of death. Hence why the finding of the pearl has such a secret history and the Order of the Pearl was established.

Real world signs of the ascent of Mergor, the Kraken of the sea..

In previous blogs I’ve told you about the history of the pearl as an energy source from Atlantis that held the balance between land and sea. Research I conducted at the Hall of Records revealed that part of the power of the pearl was its ability to control the dark forces of Mergor, the giant and many-tentacled beast of the ocean..

Artist’s impression of Mergor taken from document in the Hall of Records

Generations of seafarers have spoken of this terrifying beast of the deep, capable of swallowing ships and sinking tracts of land. Drake spoke of close encounters with the monster and Alfred Tennyson wrote a sonnet about a kraken creature as early as 1830:

Below the thunders of the upper deep;
Far far beneath in the abysmal sea,
His ancient, dreamless, uninvaded sleep
The Kraken sleepeth: faintest sunlights flee
About his shadowy sides; above him swell
Huge sponges of millennial growth and height;
And far away into the sickly light,
From many a wondrous grot and secret cell
Unnumber’d and enormous polypi
Winnow with giant arms the slumbering green.
There hath he lain for ages, and will lie
Battening upon huge seaworms in his sleep,
Until the latter fire shall heat the deep;
Then once by man and angels to be seen,
In roaring he shall rise and on the surface die.

Nancy Astor had no idea that separating the pearl from the armillary sphere during the Second World War would deactivate its powers, but the consequence was to unsettle the balance between land and sea and unleash the dark forces of the ocean. Signs of Mergor’s increased influence are everywhere once you start looking..

I began my research into the pearl – now known as the Pearl of Plymouth – in 2001 and have been drawing links between the dormancy of the pearl and the ascent of Mergor since then. The longer the pearl is dormant the stronger Mergor becomes..

The first, and most obvious sign is rising sea levels, which show no sign of abating. The faster sea levels rise, the more of the planet Mergor can claim. Each time the ocean expands its dimensions, Mergor expands in size too…

There are also many examples of strange and unexplained incidents around the coast and at sea that can be linked to the ascent of Mergor:

* It went unreported but just last month there was chaos at Whitsand Bay when a sinkhole suddenly emerged on the beach..

* Just a couple of weeks back, Plymouth Marine Lab tweeted news of this mystery marine beast, the spawn of Mergor:

* Remember the hundreds of sea birds that washed up dead along our coastlines this year? http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-22143053  The cause remained a mystery in the news..

* In 2010, there were warnings of swarms of venomous jellyfish that have been repeated again this summer: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/earth/earthnews/7563028/Swarms-of-venomous-jellyfish-move-towards-British-waters.html  Many put it down to rising sea temperatures, but there could be even more to it than that.. Especially with the increasing documentation on ‘immortal jellyfish’ taking over the ocean: http://news.nationalgeographic.co.uk/news/2009/01/090130-immortal-jellyfish-swarm.html

These are just some of the incidents I’ve documented, there are many more which I will link to here on the blog. The increased intensity of these strange maritime events in the past few years make it even more essential that the pearl is found…
